Synopsis of Program # 127:

Interview with ERIC FERLAND, President of GROUPE ECOSPHERE. Eric Ferland is also a municipal councilor for Frelighsburg located East of the Philipsburgh USA frontier crossing. Eric was leader of the Quebec wing of the Green Party and ran as a candidate for the Federal Green Party in the 1990s.
Summer fairs, festivals and concerts are leaning green with carbon neutral strategies and stepped-up recycling programs. Two large Montreal festivals, The Montreal International Jazz Festival and the Osheaga Music Festival are highly proactive in this regards.
This weeks G8 conference highlight for ecology would be the announcement that the G8 are in favor of 80% reductions in Green House Gas emissions by 2050. However, the Canadian Prime Minister and Environment Minister made statements at the conference that Canada would be sticking to the previously stated target of a 60-70% reduction in our carbon emissions. Sunday July 12: Despite Saturday night hustled my fou-funes out for a late morning workout of Jump Rope; Yoga; Budokon; Cardio Kick Box @ the Peel Basin on a sunny and breezy morning. Worked out until 1:30 abouts. Joined friends @ 365 Volleyball for an afternoon of Beach Volleyball from 2:00 PM ish 'til 6:00 PM ish. Life is good in the sand. A badly needed shower B4 heading down to the Jazz Festival for the closing night of the 30th festival (fermeture de cloiture.) Some Cuban - Latino band (don't ask me who they were but they were good); a traditional Jazz band; A hot performance (literally) of flame wielding and flame swallowing dancers (ballsy); and the closing set of Ben Harper (Way more chops than our PM Stephen Harper) with kick-ass fireworks all enjoyed with cigars (cigarillos actually, I know, don't nag me 2 quit, My bad. We all are beautiful yet flawed); a few beers and a spicy sausage. Life is good in a city that per capita, has so many fine ladies. Ain't Jazz Fest special? Pooped. Goin' 2 bed 2 recharge. Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.
Saturday July 11: Surprisingly sunny for the morning. Pinch me. Got in a walk and yoga workout in the park B4 getting on with producing episode # 127 of THE EARTH LOUNGE at my home studio. Made it into the radio station for 2:30 pm. Delivered the program. Then we got dished a serious cloud burst with heavy rain hitting Le Plateau and Downtown. The drains runneth over. However, the robins outside my digs were lovin it ... more worms to feast on.
Friday July10: Up early (OK, that was a challenge) to take the car into the garage for an oil change and inspection. Gorgeously sunny day. Got a few buddies to head over to 365 Volleyball in the afternoon where we played 2 x 2 all afternoon. Most excellent. Literally in-line skated with a lady who can do circles around me. On in-line skates vs. the proverbial "skated circles around me." lol ... awesome. My skating skills are all endurance, zippo twists and tricks. Wrapped the evening with friends enjoying an excellent summer night.
Thursday July 9: At last, SUMMER shows up. Enjoyed the summer sun and 25Celsius weather. Cycled up to the radio station in the afternoon to snag my interview with Eric Ferland of Groupe Ecosphere. The interview was used for episode # 127 of The Earth Lounge on Saturday July 11. Aye, it doesn't get any better for the traditional 5-7 (happy hour) in Old Montreal.
Wednesday July 8: Evening of Beach Volleyball @ 365 Volleyball playing for my team the SOBs.
Tuesday July 7: Seen better weather but squeezed in a cardio kick box workout @ the Peel Basin.
Monday July 6: Played softball in the CMSS mixed, recreational league atPark LeBer in Point St. Charles. Doubly excellent in that: (1) My team, The KOGNAX, won the game 7-6 hanging on after letting a 6-0 1st inning lead slip away into a nail biter (2) It didn't friggen rain this Monday for a change unlike EVERY previous game we'd played @ Le Ber this season. Had sufficient time to fit in the Budokon class B4 the softball game @ Zazen Spa.
Sunday July 5: Outdoors and luvin it all day. BUDOKON in the park. Down to the Jazz Festival to catch Patrick Watson then Steve Strongman (Blues.)
Summer reads: "The Dance of the Lion and the Unicorn ... The secret of conscious relationships" by Mark Waller; "The Natural Guide to Great Sex" by Ellen Kamhi; and "The 150 Healthiest Foods on Earth (so many ? Where have I been eating? us bachelors need input obviously) by Johnny Bowden.

HIATUS: --->8-PLUS weeks of Pilot Programming will start on Saturday July 18 in the 2:30 pm time slot while I go on Hiatus! Typically I take a 6-8 summer hiatus - break for a pilot program to get an opportunity as we encourage up and coming producers. The Pilot Program, to be titled"WEB I/O", to be headed up by executive producer Sean Casto will be focused on community interaction with the web.

ADDENDUM: ---> At the end of the hiatus period and pilot program run I decided to extend the hiatus as I needed to focus on revenue generating projects during these challenging financial times. LIFE Bio: Brian currently resides in Old Montreal. Born in the Eastern Townships. The family moved to Montreal when I was pre-school. Grew up in Ville LaSalle during the elementary school years. My family moved back to the Eastern Townships where I attended Alexander Galt High School and Champlain Regional College both in Lennoxville. Returned to Montreal after working a few years in Sherbrooke to pursue university objectives at McGill and Concordia and for career opportunities.

THE ROOMIE Bio: My roommate is Nina (8-years old) a Black Labrador/ Husky/ Other Breed mutt who came from the SPCA in 2002. Loves her people. But doesn't much like other dogs. Born hunter. Chasing squirrels and smells is what she loves best. Nina is a top notch sprinter, game dog and ball catcher. Nina splits time with me and my older brother and mum down in the Eastern Townships. A good arrangement for all. Works for me when I've needed to travel out of town on business trips or overloaded. We all get to share her high energy personality, loving nature and exploits. The dog gets the bonus of both country and urban life.

CIVIL STATUS Bio: I'm currently single after various adventures and mis-adventures in cohabitation; relationships and dating with the fairer sex. LOL. Never been married, divorced or had children. Have gone the Conjoint (co-habitation) and girlfriend route for periods of my adult years. Relationships have ran from 10-plus days to 10-plus years. Being single is actually pretty cool. Certainly beats being stuck with the wrong mate anyway. "Move on when the love is gone" chirps a popular cellular phone company advertisement. They got that right!

FARMER's MARKETS ... eat local!
MARCHE DULUTH, "Wake Up, Eat Local" ... Band playing during the launch day on Sunday June 28.

Synopsis of Program # 126:

Interview with SABINE ALPERS, Project Leader (Charge des Projets) and one of the two co-founders of the local farmer's market launched on June 28, MARCHE DULUTH.
The new market opened on Sunday June 28 located at 4265 LAVAL AVENUE in the Le Plateau Borough in the playground of a local school. The new market is located on Laval Ave. between MARIE-ANNE and RACHEL. Running North-South Laval Ave. is 4 streets east of St. Laurent and or a few streets west of St.Denis. The farmer's market will be running through out the summer on Sundays into the month of October. Waddup? Pancake breakfast; Blue Grass Bands and more for the launch day. Follow the SCARE CROWS in the 'hood to find the market. Don't be scared by the scare crows like the Straw Man in the Wizard of OZ for you are on the Yellow Brick Road (or make that Green Brick Road) to fresh, local produce.

Saturday July 4: Up early. Happy J-4 Weekend to friends from the USA. Went for a walk along the Lachine Canal. Did a Yoga stretch or two @ the Peel Basin.Walked over to do my BUDOKON class @ Zazen Spa in Old Montreal in the morning for 10:15 am; Cycled up to the radio station cutting through the CARIBFEST (Caribbean Festival) PARADE running along Rene Levesque Blvd. to meet my guest, Sabine Alpers, of Marche Duluth. During the interview we discussed her new farmer's market project, MARCHE DULUTH, as the topic of episode # 126 of THE EARTH LOUNGE on CINQ FM 102.3. 102.3 (14:30); Ice Cream stop @ KG DELICES Cafe after wards; Cycled home to podcast.
Friday July 3: Looked BLAH again. Scratched planned trip down to the Eastern Townships to pick up my doggy (Nina) staying with my brother and mom. Another day, like when its sunny. Instead, worked from the local Van Houtte Cafe on McGill street from noon- 5:00 pm. Cycled over to the HEMA-QUEBEC Blood Donor Clinic @ FIREHOUSE No. 15 in the South-West Borough to make my 18th blood donation. Looked like another evening of rain thus weaseled on a plan run down to the jazz Festival to check out the free concerts. Enjoyed a frosty beer, a cigar and watched the Mariners and Red Sox play MLB baseball while blasting rock tunes. Yapped with friends and my mom on the phone.
Thursday July 2: Worked Worked and Worked.
Wednesday July 1: CANADA DAY - lots going on in the Old Port plus the Canada Day Parade downtown. The evening was playing OUTDOOR BEACH VOLLEYBALL league (4 x 4) @ 365 VOLLEYBALL in Griffintown by the Lachine Canal. Playing for my team,the SOBs. Thunder rolled in by our 2nd match but we missed getting drenched. Ate a burger with a beer while the mosquitoes ate my legs. Was pleased with the move by the NHL Montreal Canadiens on Free Agent Frenzy Day with the acquisition of Brian Gianta (NJ) and Michael Cammalleri (Calgary) as wingers following the trade that brought center Scott Gomez to the Habs from the Rangers. Go Habs Go! We still need a big (as in 6'3", 220 Lbs-plus) knock-em-2-the-ice center or forward but these moves got my thumb-up.
Tuesday June 30: Big Jazz Fest launch with STEVIE WONDER playing to hundreds of thousands to kick off the 2009 Montreal International Jazz Fest. I cycled up to the radio station for the 6:30 pm meeting of the Board of Directors for Radio Centreville, CINQ FM 102.3. Naturally, the summer it has been, got rained on on the bicycle ride back to the Stevie Wonder concert. Cut that short to get home and dry and warm.
Monday June 29: Played softball in the CMSS mixed, recreational league at Park Le Ber in Point St. Charles @ 8:00 pm. Had enuf time to fit in the Budokon class B4 the softball game. Back to playing in wet conditions. It didn't rain much DURING the game but the outfield wasfull of puddles and water logged after non stop rain much of the day. Anyway, we persevered for a 10-7 win. Our season record up to 4-1. GO KOGNAXE GO!
Monday June 29: Caught the Advanced BUDOKON class @ Zazen Spa starting @ 5:45 pm.
SundayJune 28: Dropped my Radio Centreville Lottery tickets sold and the proceeds @ the station B4 the 1:00 pm cut-off as the lottery draw was set for 3: 00 pm. Then, checked-out the new MARCHE DULUTH farmer's market on Laval Ave. located in the court yard of a local school between Marie-Anne and Rachel Streets. Picked up some cool items such as Mango Salsa Sauce; Organic Honey; Garlic Paste and more.

Montreal unveils new MASTER PLAN for WASTE MANAGEMENT. Can you say 5-year plan? Yeppers. The new twist is a ORGANICS pickup in addition to pickups for RECYCLING and conventional TRASH (but TRASH to be reduced to once / week.) Should be a great option for those without a compost pile or box.

Saturday June 27: Walked over to do my BUDOKON class @ Zazen Spa in Old Montreal in the morning but discovered it had been canceled ... my bad for not calling ahead; Light rain thus decided Plan B would not be cycling or in-line skating; Noppers, just produced my show content from the local Van Houtte Cafe@ the corner of Wellington - McGill and wrapped @ the home studio; Up to the radio station to broadcast episode #125 of THE EARTH LOUNGE on CINQ FM 102.3 (14:30); Ice Cream stop @ KG Cafe after wards; Walk and window shopping thru Mile End and Le Plateau. Decided not to buy any windows after all.
Friday June 26: Work-Work-Work. Also a small condo renovation project. Caught the NHL ENTRY DRAFT on the tube but it was being hosted here in Montreal @ the Bell Centre. No surprise in John Tavares being the #1 pick and going to the New York Islanders. The Habs draft a local kid from Pointe-Claire, Louis Leblanc, in round #1 (he was the 18th pick in the 1st round). LeBlanc played for the Omaha Lancers of the United States Hockey league where he was Rookie of the Year and 8th in the league in goal scoring with 28-goals and 59-points in 60 games.
Thursday June 25: Work-Work-Work. Evening shopping @ Home Depot B4 heading out.
Wednesday June 24: FETE ST. JEAN (Province of Quebec Stat holiday) Sunny and hot for the holiday. Nize. Did brunch and sailing with a buddy of mine. Brunch in LaSalle @ Peddlers Restaurant on Newman Blvd. Sailing from the Royal St. Lawrence Yacht Club in Dorval out on Lac St. Louis. The wind died out when we were on the water. lol. But it was like 30 Celsius and sunny so nothing to much to complain about on the water.
Wednesday June 24, 2009: FETE ST. JEAN (Province of Quebec - Stat Holiday) The evening was playing OUTDOOR BEACH VOLLEYBALL league (4 x 4) @ 365 VOLLEYBALL in Griffintown by the Lachine Canal. Playing for my team, the SOBs. Was a gorgeous spring eve for volleyball. Eve better for a frosty post game libation and burger.
Tuesday June 23: Went to the Canadian Football League (CFL) exhibition game @ the Percival Molson Stadium. Excellent eve for football! Sunny. Warm in teh upper 20s Celsius. Ideal summer's night. The Alouettes came back from a 26-25 deficit at the end of the 3rd Qtr to win the game 31-27! Go Als Go! Their CFL regular season starts July 1 in Calgary. Earlier in the day it was in-line skating and getting the flat tire on my bicycle fixed at the local repair - rental shop, Ca Roule, on De La Commune Street in my own hood.
Monday June 22: Also played softball in the CMSS mixed, recreational league at Park Ignance Bourget in LaSalle @ 9:30 pm. Had enuf time to fit in the Budokon class B4 the softball game. We got the late match this week making that feasible. Finally, a softball match without RAIN and or COLD! Excellent conditions. We won it 18-6. GO KOGNAXE GO!

Monday June 22: keener on a sunny morning! Did an early (for me any way) Yoga - Cardio kick Box work out @ the Peel Basin. Got a flat bicycle tire heading over. That was very Monday morning.
Sunday June 21: Father's Day. My own dad pasted away many years back but the day always holds fond memories of our Father's Day trout fishing outings.
Saturday June 20; Checked out the GLASS TIGER concert (and free $$$) @ the CRESCENT STREET 50th Anniversary Street Party. Good stuff from the classic rock - 80s band. I found a light beer that I can enjoy beyond the ads in Bud Light Lime. In summer time its all good while in winter its stout and amber ales.

Friggen rained the whole game AGAIN! apparently we dig the rain for we came back from a 5-3 deficit to win 7-5.I played Catcher thus minimal damage to the defense until my sprained finger recovers. The EUREKA FESTIVAL "science here, there, everywhere" being held in Montreal's Quays of the Old Port from Friday June 12 through Sunday June 14. After some technical glitches early on in the show (taber-snack, as bad as the 1st inning of my softball game on Monday evening!) eventually played the interview with communications officer Rejean Lemieux of the CANADIAN SPACE AGENCY in the third segment of the episode with my interview recorder held up to the microphone. The interview was recorded Friday June 12 @ the Eureka Festival where Rejean and other CSA staff were manning a kiosk at the Eureka Festival.
Also discussed the UNEP (United Nations Environment Program) initiative for WORLD OCEANS DAY on Monday June 9. Concurrently UNEP released a report on MARINE LITTER.

Summer and vacation time can potentially mean a drop off in donors. Not good. It could be yourself or someone close to you that needs a summer blood transfusion. If you are a qualified blood donor do pitch in a pint by giving the most worthy of gifts, the gift of life. I did my 16th blood donation on April 23 @ the Molson's Blood Donor Clinic thus I have to wait the 50-odd days until I can give again. The card they gave me after my previous donation indicated I must wait until June 18 before I can do my 17th blood donation to to Hema-Quebec. Their web site page for National Blood donor Week stated that 1,000 donations a day are needed to meet the demand of hospitals in the Province of Quebec.

Saturday June 6: Did a BUDOKON class @ Zazen Spa in Old Montreal in the morning; Prepared my show; cycled up to the radio station to broadcast THE EARTH LOUNGE on CINQ FM 102.3 (14:30). Attended the Mondiale de la Biere 2009 (Montreal's International Beer Festival) in the evening. Was a darn good time.
Friday June 5: Cycled the 20km night bike ride, TOUR LA NUIT, with a buddy of mine. Started in Le Plateau on St. Joseph up to TOHU in the north of the island and ended at Jeanne-Mance Park also in Le Plateau.
Thursday June 4: Did a BUDOKON workout in the Old Port park down by the Quays in the afternoon. Caught the Red Wings and Penguins game in the evening. Damn, a Detroit loss. Series tied 2-2.
Wednesday June 3: Did a BUDOKON workout in the Old Port park @ lunch. A yoga instructor and new Budokon practitioner joined me. The evening was our FIRST matches in the OUTDOOR BEACH VOLLEYBALL league (4 x 4) @ 365 VOLLEYBALL in Griffintown by the Lachine Canal. My team, the SOBs, are back for our 4th season @ 365 Volleyball.
Monday June 1: Rain! Played softball in the CMSS mixed, recreational league at Le Ber park down in Point St. Charles. Despite the rain it was game on! My team, the KOGNAXE, won 24-11.

There is Pirate Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) in the Pirates of the Caribbean movie trilogy then there is Captain Jack Squat. I was Captain Jack Squat this week as that was pretty much what I did for activity after the in-line skating wipe out on Sunday. lmao. Sprained a finger, scraped a few other fingers, bruised my butt and my pride, glad I was wearing wrist guards or it would have been nastier ... thus no volleyball, Budokon, softball, cycling or in-line skating as planned. Ice and Advil. Good times. NOT.
Saturday May 30: Walked over to the remote broadcast CINQ FM 102.3 was doing @ the POINTE-A_CALLIERE Museum for their CULTURAL FEAST for program #121 of THE EARTH LOUNGE (14:30). Interviewed Pierre Lalumiére (Communication Director, Pointe-A-Calliere) and Catherine Roberge (Communications Coordinator, Pointe-A-Calliere) covering the Cultural Feast, Montreal Museums Day (Sunday may 31) and their new exhibition Pirates, Privateers and Bootleggers. Up to the station after wards to conduct membership interviews for new applicants. Watched my NHL Red Wings beat the Penguins in game # 1 of the Stanley Cup Finals and in the NBA the Orlando Magic dethroned King James and the Cleveland Cavaliers to advance to the NBA finals.
Did attend the first game of my softball team's new season on Monday but limited my role to score keeper.
Did enjoy watching my Detroit Red Wings eliminate the Chicago Blackhawks and move on to the Stanley Cup Finals. It would be a rematch of last season's Stanley Cup final against the Pittsburgh Penguins.
Happy Birthday to my older brother down in the Eastern Townships who celebrated a B-Day in the past week!
Sunday May 24: Sunday afternoon went In-Line Skating through the Old Port then down the Lachine Canal to the St. Pierre Bridge; skated back to the Atwater Market to pick up a snack and veggies; wiped out on my skates (my duh); skated on to the Peel Basin to do a Cardio Kick Box / Budokon workout regardless; wrapped it with a skate back through the Old Port. My NHL Detroit Red Wings handily beat the Blackhawks 6-1 in a Sunday matinee game while I was enjoying the outdoors but could have done without the wipe out ...scrapped a few body parts and might have sprained a finger.

Saturday May 23: Saturday morning 10:15 am BUDOKON class @ Zazen Spa. Rented a BIXI bicycle (Montreal's new bike rental system) and cycled up to the radio station to host episode # 120 of The Earth Lounge @ 2:30 pm. Gave it my critique. Double espresso post show @ Tredix Cafe on Fairmont Avenue. Cycled the BIXI bicycle back to my place in old Montreal. Enjoyed the ride! Poutine (yes that wondorous Quebec ciulinary delight ... french fries covered in BBQ gravy sauce and cheese curds) & Wine Party in the evening.
Friday May 22: Went out for an IN-LINE SKATING outing on the Lachine Canal down to the De L'Eglise Bridge. Pit stop into the Atwater Market to pick up a box of hot peppers to grow and add seasoning to meals. Watched the thriller of an NHL playoff game as the Red Wings lost 4-3 in overtime to the Blackhawks. The Western conference final 2-1 Detroit.
Thursday May 21: Played Indoor Beach Volleyball @ 365 Volleyball with my team the SOBs. Last matches of the spring indoor season. Next season its OUTDOORS! Went IN-LINE SKATING earlier in the day.
Wednesday May 20: Did an evening BUDOKON class @ Zazen Spa. Out in the hood in the evening.
Tuesday May 19: Went to see the new STARTREK movie. Loved it! Not really a Trekkie myself but I dig a good scifi flick. In the evening caught the Red Wings and Blackhawks NHL Western Final series match @ Cage Aux Sports (a sports bar) in Old Montreal. My Wings won a thriller in overtime on a makael Samuelson goal.
Monday May 18: Victoria Day. Sunny day if cool for the statutory holiday. Did the outdoors with cycling and a BUDOKON - Cardio Kick Box workout @ the Peel Basin. Picked up veggies and fruits @ the Atwater Market on my bike ride post workout.
